Working
together on your pictures
Creative
Seeing was launched because I felt that many photographers
were struggling with making pictures their own. They
were stuck trying to please judges at the local club
or just got so used to seeing a certain way that they
lost the art of pleasing their own photographic way
of seeing.
When
I visited photography clubs on a regular basis it
was not unusual for someone to ask me how I saw something
that most people walk past everyday.
It
took me some time to understand how most people did
not see what I saw but once I understood (through
reading and being mentored by a great mentor, Ben
Lifson) it made sense to share that knowledge with
others.
While
you will see many lessons in basics and advanced techniques
on how to use a camera on this site, I have also added
articles on picture building and how to see as an
artist sees, how to find your own style.
I
am a firm believer that anyone can create great pictures,
it is not a gift given at birth to a select few. We
are all given the gift, unfortunately our visual language
is given a back seat ride to words and arithmetic
during our younger schooling years.
Getting
familiar with the aspects of camera operation that
fulfil your picture making goals is important and
why I have given space to learning those aspects here.
It should become second nature. Once you have reached
a stage where you no longer have to think about your
camera you can move on to letting your creative eye
make pictures freely.
In
the near future I will be giving my time to mentoring
photographers such as yourself that want to move on
past the technical aspects of photography and become
competent picture makers.
